Johannesburg - Nelson Mandela's cousin, Tembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo - the head of the Tembu Royal House - said this week the ANC had lost its way and had pushed corrupt leaders to the top. He also said he plans to join the DA.

In an interview with the Sunday Times at the Bumbane Great Place near Mthatha, the Tembu king said he had informed DA leaders Helen Zille and Athol Trollip that he intends to join their party.

Dalindyebo said his decision would be communicated to the chiefs that fall under him at a meeting scheduled for next week.

Dalindyebo said he also plans to campaign for the DA in next year's elections but added that he was not sure how his people would react to the news.

Dalindyebo is the head of the Tembu Royal House, under whose jurisdiction the Mandela family falls.
