Johannesburg - The younger sister of former president Nelson Mandela will be buried in Mqanduli in the Eastern Cape on Saturday, family spokesperson Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela said.

Makhulu Nothusile Bhulehluthi died at the age of 82 on January 28 in Mthatha. She was the last of Mandela's surviving siblings.

"Makhulu Bhulehluthi was a dearly loved elder of the Mandela and Bhulehluthi families," the spokesperson said on Wednesday.

"It is fitting that she be laid to rest alongside her husband, Mthawelanga Bhulehluthi."

The funeral service was scheduled to start at 09:30.
