Manhunt for Limpopo rapists
Johannesburg - A manhunt is on for three men after the rape of three women in Vuwani in Limpopo, police said on Wednesday.
The men gained entrance to the house of an 18-year-old girl and her 36-year-old mother in Lwamondo village, Vuwani, on Wednesday.
"The three stormed into the house where one of them assaulted the mother, gagged her while the other two went to the daughter's room," Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.
Mulaudzi said the girl was dragged from the house and raped outside.
"Her mother was also raped. The three fled on foot, taking with them a cellphone, cash and clothing."
A 14-year-old girl was raped, allegedly by the same three men, in Mvelaphanda village in Vuwani on Tuesday night. The three broke into the house through a window. One of the men raped the girl.
"Her 81-year-old grandmother was assaulted, but was not raped," he said.
All the victims were taken to the local hospital for medical treatment.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Simon Mpembe urged residents to help the police fight crime.
"The manhunt is on. It is sickening that we have people that still want to prey on our women... We will leave no stone unturned, that I promise," said Mpembe.
