2012-10-08 14:24

Durban - A manhunt has been launched for two men who killed a policeman and wounded another during a robbery at a fast food outlet in New Germany, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said police were investigating a case of business robbery, murder and attempted murder.

On Friday night three armed men entered a food outlet and demanded money and cellphones from employees.

The two officers were driving past the outlet when they witnessed the robbery and confronted the men, the Beeld newspaper reported.

"It is alleged that the suspects opened fire towards the officers, wounding two policemen. The members returned fire fatally wounding one suspect," Zwane said.

Two of the robbers ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detective Constable Ajith Krishanlal, 45, died on his way to hospital and his partner was in a critical condition in hospital.

Police recovered a firearm and cellphones suspected taken during the robbery.

i was present on the memorial service held on sunday 7 october,it was a sad site, something needs to be done wit these cop killers, and it is alleged that the IPID officials who wer there contiminated the crime scene, they are not properly trained on handling a crime scene

      atholl.canterbury - 2012-10-08 19:13

Sanela ''' IPID officials .... contiminated the crime scene ....''' This certainly raises the question of whether the robbers were closely connected to the police. The bigger issue is certainly that Diligent and Forthright police : ... must be supported ... their success highlighted ... their families supported ... their careers bolstered Killed in the line of duty is not acceptable when you're a policeman. Imagine being an electrician/plumber/carpenter/doctor/optician/engineer/politician and you are under constant threat of being 'Killed in the line of duty' ... and the crime scene is contaminated.
