Man's body found in Soweto river

Johannesburg - The body of a man was found in a river in Braamfischerville, Soweto, on Monday, police said.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said a man went looking for wood in the early hours of Monday morning and saw the body floating in the water.

"He called people to help him and they retrieved the body of a man in his 30s who was killed and thrown into the water. He was found with an open wound on his back."

Makhubela said the identity of the man was not known and urged members of the community who had filed missing person reports to contact the police.
