Man's body found near Rustenburg

2012-11-02 20:52

Johannesburg - The body of a man shot in the head was found at an informal settlement near Rustenburg on Friday morning, North West police said.

"It is alleged that the deceased was with a friend at the time of the incident, but his wounded friend managed to run away from their attackers to nearby houses," said Warrant Officer Sam Tselenyane.

Police were called to Million Dollar section, between Sondela informal settlement and Paardekraal, where they found the body at 6am.

The injured man was taken to hospital and was in a serious but stable condition.

The shooting was about five kilometres from the Khuseleka shaft of Anglo American Platinum mine and the dead man could have been an employee of Murray & Roberts at Aquarius Platinum mine, police said.

However, it was not yet known whether it was linked to the ongoing mining strikes.

The men's identities and ages were not known.

Cases of murder and attempted murder had been laid with the Boitekong police.

No one had been arrested.
