Mantashe lays down the law at ANC briefing

2012-04-03 16:30

Johannesburg - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Tuesday that the time has come for party members to stop attempting to sow division within the organisation.

Mantashe pointed to the recent comments by the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association calling for the expulsion of suspended ANCYL leader Julius Malema from the party and the subsequent retort by the ANCYL, in defence of its embattled leader.

He said that the bickering must stop, and he is concerned about "some alien behaviour within the ANC".

We went on a treasure hunt once as children, walked for hours. When we arrived at our X our treasure was revealed. A lollipop for each! This kind of feels the same as that day.

THis is like ANC hosting a 1Billion event to tell the audience..."The answer to life is...42." bunch of idiots...

      Johana - 2012-04-03 16:53

Yes, that's it. After local elections, I have said that ANC is soon going to fall apart. Current leadership can do nothing about it, hence such statement from them. There is a good chance that ANC will not survive next elections.

"Alien behavour"? Aaahhhhh... so THAT explain Malema! He couldn't get back to the mothership in time before it left earth!

  • frans.visserdsb - 2012-04-03 16:39

Really? Seriously? they call a media briefing for this? taking VERY expensive government officials out of their busy days in order to tell ANC members to stop bickering? Newsflash - dirty laundry should be aired in private. if you discipline someone in public, it is usually the end of the road...

  • Jackie - 2012-04-03 16:39

What a waste of time & effort!! Did they only realise now that Juju is trouble?? Duhh?

  • Henry - 2012-04-03 16:40

"Grand-Pa laying down the Law" sounds like so old-fashioned 2me..Who are they disciplining now? The Media? Cos every legitimate member of the ANC should be called in-house and get a slap..if your kid has wronged to you do u call the neighbours and call for domestic unity or you call your kid to the house and "Lay Down The Law"

  • martin.gee.godfrey - 2012-04-03 16:40

Umkhonto we Sizwe were only saying what every other sane South African was thinking!!

  • Qinisile - 2012-04-03 16:42

Did 'nt he say this the last time?, same song over and over.

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-04-03 16:45

This regime does lots of talking. Talking and eating at their conference buffet tables. And then more talking. South Africa needs leaders who take decisive action !!! We will follow those leaders.

  • prince.mashao - 2012-04-03 16:45

The ANC goes all-out 2exhaust the party's resources, tire staff, the honourable President inclusive, all but for what? Just to indirectly respond2Malema and his crew. I thot they were going to respond 2 him directly at the 12th of April, are we not expecting the media briefing of this calibre post the famous announcement of Juju's fate..ANC officials never seizes2amaze me

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-04-03 16:52

I think they are worried about something. Maybe there are rumours in the ANC about a split or something. There's something we are not being told here.

The 'Top Six' seem a pretty toothless, ineffectual bunch all round.

  • Shirley - 2012-04-03 16:48

If a press conference is called and all 6 stand strong-someone is worried! I think there is far more to this than meets the eye.

  • rowan.maulson - 2012-04-03 16:49

Why should they stop Mantashe? You guys aren't held together by any common belief other than enriching your own individual pockets so of course there will be bickering when one is enriched at the expense of another.

  • Morne - 2012-04-03 16:54

I agree with the MK veterans! Grandpa's for relieving of a fast growing major headache!

  • meredith.r.pollock - 2012-04-03 17:36

Of course there will be division when you give positions to unqualified people just because they friends & family, this is what happens when the uneducated & unskilled think they can run a country... By the way if this was the big announcement I rest my case!!!!!

      Irene - 2012-04-03 17:47

It was a big announcement given the mental capacity it came from.

      manyanyaphiri - 2012-04-03 18:31

the anc's gone to the dogs as of this mo. Just remove this one man and all will have a happy ending!

      Gerhard - 2012-04-03 18:36

I am sure the cabinet laughs behind Zuma's back every day.

  • maseratifittipaldi - 2012-04-03 18:52

Perhaps it is good to sow DA Vision in the ANC.

  • Nyameko - 2012-04-03 18:55

I remember Juju s utterances b4 President Mbeki was re called. The ANC leadership was fully behind Julius s statements and everything happened exactly the way ;Juju said it wud. The same leaders nw are at war with their firebrand. South African politics are just like a circus. Unbelievable boring.

  • Jack - 2012-04-03 23:07

Was Ma-sta-she trying to tell Julius that he should stop scratching where it hurts…..True leaders do not get involve with mudslinging and petty politics. Today’s news conference was a clear indication that the big boys are panicking. Will the born leaders of our organization please come to the fore and save the sinking ship….. What are celebrating 100 years for, an education system that’s failing our children……unaffordable petrol pricing… forced toll fees…no jobs…..escalating abusing of taxpayers’ money…to name but a few and for this we are having a party?.....
