Cape Town - Convicted killer Thandi Maqubela was sentenced by the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday to and effective 18 years in jail.

She was sentenced to 15 years for killing her husband, acting Judge Patrick Maqubela in his Sea Point, Cape Town, flat in 2009.

Maqubela was further sentenced to three years for forging his will and another three years for committing fraud by causing potential prejudice in his estate.

Prosecutor Bonnie Currie-Gamwo reportedly said that by accelerating the decomposition of the corpse and staying with her husband’s body for hours, Maqubela showed a callous lack of empathy.

She said the widow had shown no remorse for her actions.

Currie-Gamwo said Patrick Maqubela's intention to divorce his wife propelled her to murder him, and not his infidelity.
