Cape Town - The Christian Action Network held a funeral procession outside Parliament on Monday in memory of aborted babies.
The march took place on the 13th anniversary of the legalisation of abortion in South Africa.
The procession of about 80 people was led through the streets of Cape Town by a white hearse, ending in front of Parliament.
Marchers dressed in black carried white crosses, flowers and placards reading "abortion kills babies", "take my hand not my life", and "abortion the ultimate child abuse".
They placed the flowers on a small white coffin at the gates of Parliament where they held a prayer vigil.
"Since February 1997 an estimated 900 000 South African babies have lost their lives through abortion, legally, with taxpayers' money," said Taryn Hodgson, international co-ordinator of the Christian Action Network.
"This should be a national day of repentance," she said.
Christian Action Network wants the government to rethink its stance on abortion in South Africa with a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion.
"Life starts at conception," said Hodgson. "In God's court, abortion is murder."
