Cape Town - The Cape High Court on Thursday sentenced a former security guard to two life sentences for the 2001 murder and robbery of Marike de Klerk, the ex-wife of former president, FW de Klerk.
Judge John Hlophe also sentenced Luyanda Mboniswa, 22, to three years in prison for housebreaking. Mboniswa received a life sentence for the murder and another life sentence for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
"You showed absolutely no remorse whatsoever throughout this trial. There's no doubt that the communities out there are looking to the court for protection against crimes of violence that you have committed," Hlophe said.
Hlophe found Mboniswa guilty of murder, robbery and housebreaking on Tuesday, but acquitted him on a rape charge.
Mboniswa, from Khayelitsha, was arrested two days after De Klerk was found stabbed and strangled in the bathroom of her luxury beachfront flat on December 4, 2001.
He had worked as a security guard at the 64-year-old De Klerk's complex.
