Matric attacked with acid on day of exam

2012-06-07 08:42

Durban - A matric pupil from Durban was about to leave home to write an exam when she was brutally attacked by someone who threw acid on her.

It was alleged that a relative threw acid at Noholo Ntombela, 19, during an argument over soap at her Verulam home, reported the Daily News.

When neighbours found Ntombela, she was lying on the floor of her home in a lot of pain and in a state of shock, with her 2-year-old child screaming on the floor next to her.

Ntombela sustained serious burns to her face, head and body.

Neighbours said the fight had been over whom the soap belonged to and that the relative had threatened to return with more acid to kill her.

Police were looking for the relative.

Thats sick.Find him and lock him up with the other animals.

      Harald - 2012-06-07 08:57

      Why him?

      Martin - 2012-06-07 10:41

that sounds like a chick retalliation, destroy how the other looks, but i could be wrong,

      Patsy - 2012-06-07 12:26

I think you mean savages, Matthew. Animals do not behave like that they have more respect for one another. They don't rape, they kill only for food and generally, are much better people than the 2-legged variety

      Heibrin - 2012-06-08 07:17

Patsy, actually some primates do rape. Food for thought...

  • Consolata - 2012-06-07 08:49

What the f? A bar of soap!!!! Really???!!! Stop trying to destroy the lives of kids that actually want a future for themselves!

      nokuthandwa - 2012-06-07 09:22

I have to disagree with you Henry. The fact that she’s gone back to school after having a baby says a lot about what she wants in life. I believe she wants a better life for herself and her baby or she wouldn't have bothered.

      Martin - 2012-06-07 10:40

yeah i follow the devil on twitter

  • Cassandra Eileen Olivier - 2012-06-07 08:53

WTF! Over a bar of soap like he couldn't go out and buy another

      Patsy - 2012-06-07 12:30

When I do my weekly shopping and look at the prices of even basic items, I wonder how really poor people even manage to exist, never mind live. If you do not have a job - how do you survive?

      Martin - 2012-06-07 16:07

Patsy watch my thumbs downs,,,i have said before, minimum wage should be R10 000, small crappy apartment R2000 - R3500 depending where, small car plus insurance another R3000, groceries for 1 easy R2000, Petrol R1000- R2000. Clothing (everyone knows) this is for the scenario where humans dont actually have to live in shacks anymore. basic start out cost of living a "normal" middle class life.. note no money allocated for entertainment, life is work eat and sleep, no fluffy nice to haves

      Dee - 2012-06-07 18:26

I agree Patsy ... and have lived through a few periods of worrying over even cost of a bar of soap. I cannot begin to imagine living my entire life with that level of stress - with little hope or means to escape it. (Other than placing faith in a vote - that cruelly fails me too). It's really no wonder the level of 'insanity' seems so high.

Just another day in South Africa..... But seriously? SOAP? Poor girl

      Schmee - 2012-06-07 10:39

Well I guess the attacker is going to have lots of arguments about soap in jail. If it's a guy I suggest he doesn't bend over to pick it up in the shower.

  • stean.ferreira.5 - 2012-06-07 09:08

      slawek.puk - 2012-06-07 09:14

And they say education is they key. To some yes but not to all. Moral like a firing squad for these type of people.

      khanyib1 - 2012-06-08 07:22

      What type of people?

      slawek.puk - 2012-06-08 09:28

The barbaric type of people, which else?

  • aiyo.sami - 2012-06-07 09:09

OK - common sense, if the soap did not belong to the relative, go buy yourself a bar of soap, far cheaper than procuring acid I would think. If the soap did belong to the relative, buy yourself another bar of soap. Again either way you spent more money and now ruined too peoples lives... Such a dumb ass...

      Peter Mongwane - 2012-06-07 09:15

this was not jst coz of soap, the evil spirit was behind the attack, if u can ask the relative y she dd it, she tel u. shes regretting now

      Charne - 2012-06-07 09:44

Here we go again with the evil spirit nonsense, always the same excuse...tsk tsk tsk

      Bryan - 2012-06-07 10:03

      @Peter Mongwane...Evil spirit, bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha....bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....bwahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha....Seriously dude...Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!! I think I just pissed my pants!!!

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:16

Aiyo, I give our domestic worker groceries along, but you should see how delighted she is when I buy nice smelling soap as well. At the end of the day we are all human, her delight proofs that.

  • slawek.puk - 2012-06-07 09:12

Over a bar of soap? This is ridiculous. I don't even think education is enough for people like that.

      khanyib1 - 2012-06-08 07:24

      People like what????

  • Hudayfah - 2012-06-07 09:19

Was this some magical soap? If you wash you the foam turns into gold coins? Bloody hell man! You could've rather klapped eachother and cried afterwards.

      slawek.puk - 2012-06-07 10:19

maybe it was anti aids soap :)

      theO rAcLe - 2012-06-07 11:04

Shower Head Soap.....heheheheh...That is how you get rid of aids..REMEMBER.

      slawek.puk - 2012-06-07 13:15

Oh yes i remember, But the new way is using soap now. lol

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:19

Hudayfah, if you only have enough money for bread, soap is a luxury. Just because you can afford to take such things for granted, spare a thought for those who have so much less than you.

      Hudayfah - 2012-06-07 14:04

@ Jacqui I certainly do sypathise with people who are under privaleged. Thats a whole issue on its own. I do not sympathise with people who resorts to violence when there are other means of resolving an issue. In this case, this guy is just purely barbaric. You do not do this to someone over soap.

      slawek.puk - 2012-06-07 14:46

@jacqui. have or not having s luxury as soap is not the issue here, it's the way the person was abused and the extend how it was done. That is pure barbaric as well like to call it. I also wonder how do they come up with these plots to kill, using acid, do they see it on TV, dream about it or what. I just cannot understand it. Why kill?

  • Maria - 2012-06-07 09:21

I think that the world has gone mad. Injuring a woman with acid to a dispute over a soap is not acceptable. Even going to school is becoming dangerous. Here in Italy last month a man has put a bomb in a school and killed a girl because he seems to have personal reasons of resentment against justice and it happened that the school was close to the court. I just hope that the perpetrators of these crimes are properly punished. I wish the poor girl to recover soon.

      msendi - 2012-06-07 13:14

Does Italians always say "only in Italy" or only in Europe everytime they make a comment about crime?

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:23

Maria the man in Italy had Maffia connections and the school is named after the wife of a judge who put many mafioso behind bars. He and his wife were both blown up and the day the bomb exploded at the school was the anniversary of that killing.

  • Stacy Matsane Teletubbie - 2012-06-07 09:23

This is seriously uncalled for. Now she has to live with the trauma for the rest of her life, over soap?????

If you gonna look deeper its not about the soap. Sometimes people can decide to wright you future off. She is 19, wrighting matric axems and has a child. It sounds like she is determined to succeed nor matter what. I wish for her speedy recovery.

      Tendy Nedombs - 2012-06-07 11:01

Matshidiso, I am confused here. Wright, axems? Mind your language.

      and your point is?

      DuToitCoetzee - 2012-06-07 10:34

Would you have rather like it to be "not trying to do matrix, because of having a 2 year old"? What was done was done, but now she tries to correct it/better herself.

      Deon - 2012-06-07 13:24

I agree rather study than get babies, or get at least some birth control.

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:24

      Martin,,,so?.

  • Genesistt - 2012-06-07 10:29

Oh my God! I'm speechless! What is wrong with the world I'm living in?!

      Adrian.deWet - 2012-06-08 15:26

It is not the world, but rather the country. That is what happens when you live in a society filled with primitive animals that was brought up without any education.

  • lynn.syme.1 - 2012-06-07 10:31

This is how we resolve conflict now? Have some lost the skill to communicate? It was a bar of bloody soap and now a young woman is disfigured for life. *shakes head*

  • Lewina - 2012-06-07 10:36

Ths is jst sick.wht is a person's life worth these days tht u shud get killed or hurt over a bar of soap?

      Bruce - 2012-06-07 13:07

I agree with you, but I am also getting sick of people who don't bother to write proper English. If you applied for a job writing like this, you need not bother. Have you ever received a business letter written like this. You write like this in an essay, assignment or exam you would fail!

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:26

Bruce, how can they write proper English if this is what they are taught at school, or worse, under a Marula tree?.

      Irene - 2012-06-07 13:37

Jacqui ~ In this case it's not because of poor education. This is SMS speak because people are too lazy to write correctly and everything is abbreviated.

      thandazab - 2012-06-07 14:26

Yoh so many condescending English teachers out here! This is not an English grammar or spelling site. N most of us are using our cellphones so its a drag to spell da whole word! N now u r implying that its the black ppl who type like that hence the marula tree comment! Obviously he wasn't writing a business letter or application duh!! Another thing is that some of us are young here we used to social network lingo bt it does not mean we can't spell, read or write english so if u are an old bag of bones u will ignore the points being made and nit pick over stupid things.

  • briana.scott - 2012-06-07 10:36

      Jacqui - 2012-06-07 13:29

Michaela, you want the death penalty for a crime about a bar of soap?. Where will you end? America has the death penalty, they are one of the most crime ridden countries in the world. Granted a lot more people live there but what good is the death penalty doing them?.

  • Jayne - 2012-06-07 12:09

  • puse.mabuza - 2012-06-07 12:12

  • Carla - 2012-06-07 12:27

OMW!!! You ruin the life of a family member for a bar of soap??? And what about the little two year old that was obviously present for the encounter? What if some of the acid had splashed onto him/her? How can anyone be so cruel?
