Durban - Four matriculants at an adult training centre were this week caught cheating during the biology exam.
A candidate of the Phindangene Adult Centre in Lamontville, Durban, allegedly asked a young man, who finished Matric last year, to write her biology exam.
Both were arrested on Monday.
Senior superintendent Phindile Radebe, a police spokesperson, said the 24-year-old woman, Confident Khanyle, and 19-year-old man, Lindokuhle Msomi, allegedly swopped the photo in her identity document.
The two were caught when inspectors of the provincial education department investigated after a tip-off.
Khanyile and Msomi appeared briefly in the magistrate's court in Wentworth On Tuesday on a charge related to the Identity Act. According to law, identity documents may not be tampered with.
The two suspects will be asked to plead when they appear in court again on November 22.
They have been released on own recognisance.
In a separate incident three adult matriculants in kwaMashu were caught with crib notes during a biology exam, said Christi Naudé, spokesperson for the education MEC.
They will appear before a departmental disciplinary committee.
The provincial department introduced a security manager for the matric exam for the first time this year, who will operate from the MEC's office.
In order to upgrade security around the exams, departmental officials and police meet three times a day at district, area and provincial level, said Naudé.
