Matrics told to report problems immediately

2011-11-06 19:55
Mbombela - Former matriculants experiencing problems with their results have been advised to contact the Mpumalanga education department immediately.

Department spokesperson Jasper Zwane said former matriculants who had problems either with their results or certificates had taken too long to bring the problems to the department's attention.

“Former pupils are (causing backlogs) because they don't report their problems until the day they have to submit their certificates to their prospective employers,” said Zwane.

“We invite these pupils to contact the department in time because they always come to us at the last minute and expect us to help immediately.”

Zwane said some matriculants also complained to the media when they felt the department wasn't acting fast enough.

“This creates the negative impression that the department is failing to assist them when we are in fact trying to help them,” he said.

He said that last year, when the department invited those who had exam-related problems to come forward, no one did.

Zwane invited affected matriculants to phone the department on 013 766 0097 or email
