Johannesburg - Mayor of Dr Kenneth Kaunda district in the North West, Boitumelo Moloi, has sent condolences to the families of 12 people who were killed in a crash in Vereeniging.
"It is saddening to know that the accident tragically cut short the lives of so many people," he said in a statement.
"It left behind a hollow space in our hearts."
The accident happened on Thursday when a minibus and a truck collided head-on at the intersection of Houtkop and Boy Louw roads.
The minibus was carrying 12 employees of the Rio Casino, situated in Klerksdorp.
Eleven passengers died on the scene and one died later in hospital.
Road users should heed the call to exercise caution on the roads and avert unnecessary loss of lives and injuries due to accidents, said Moloi.
