Mbalula 'collapses' during meeting

2011-05-26 08:50

Johannesburg - Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula collapsed during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old former ANC Youth League leader however overcame the "sudden flu-like symptoms" and should be back at work on Thursday, government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said.

The New Age quoted an unnamed government official who was at the meeting saying: "They administered a CPR [sic] and used a defibrillator to ease his breathing before strapping him to a stretcher and wheeling him out to the hospital... "

  • Lab-Rat - 2011-05-26 08:58

Sorry but you don't collapse from flu, please try again.

"Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula collapsed during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday." .........and so ? what must we do ?

      Observer - 2011-05-26 09:53

Hope he didn't have a bad hangover!

      Johan - 2011-05-26 10:39

This often happens to former ANCYL members and occurs when they try to think for the first time in their lives. The whole experience of thinking overwelms their bodies and the natural reaction of the body is to collapse and go into a state of shock. The downside is that after they recover the brain goes into a state of amnesia and they revert back to doing things without thinking. You will notice that Julius Malema has never had such an experience and judging by his actions he never will either.

      jowza - 2011-05-26 10:50

    Too much KFC!!! TROLL

      Mathekga - 2011-05-26 09:34

What makes people think KFC is for blacks, I hear this comment a lot this days towards black people. shame on you jakes.

      jowza - 2011-05-26 09:53

i see more white people at our local kfc

      John - 2011-05-26 09:56

@Mathekga, next time you go to KFC, take a look at the majority of the customers.. go to the bus, train stations & taxi ranks and see what fast food products litters the streets. If you can add 1 + 1 then you should figure it out.

      jowza - 2011-05-26 10:08

@john.go to predominantly white ares and look at the majority of customers.if you can add 1 +1 then you should figure it out

      Carmaine Harrison - 2011-05-26 10:13

@ Mathekga, John and jowza - KFC is for South Africans. The only reason the majority of customers are black is because the majority of South Africans are black. jowza, you are shopping in a white area, no?

      VELOCITY - 2011-05-26 10:22

Mathekga, our family for one don't touch the stuff. It's probably the highest concentration of animal fats you can find in a single meal. That stuff kills man. Oh and by the way, that lovely ice cream they sell? There's chicken fat in there too.

      patrick khorombi - 2011-05-26 10:29

You disgust me. You are a nincompoop and inconsiderate pig. Does your momma feed on KFC?....Oh! yes, thats xplains why she faints too often

      horsehair - 2011-05-26 10:41

      *these days

      Johan - 2011-05-26 10:48

Mathekga where on earth do you see that Jakes said KFC is for blacks? Do you not read the people's comments or what? I am white and love my KFC!!! Can people not comment without bringing race into the equation??? If black people love KFC what is wrong with that???????

      John - 2011-05-26 10:56

Johan, Carmaine Harrison, jowza that is why international comedians (black & white) rip black people off about KFC across the globe. Commonly refereed as "chicken people"... ok, you're the dudes that eat "walkie talkies".

  • - 2011-05-26 09:13

A defribrillator to ease his breathing?! Sounds like a goverment official has learnt a new word and couldn't wait to use it. Next time turn it up to 800 joules and try stop the breathing. It will be more beneficial to all of us in the long run.

      Sarak - 2011-05-26 09:17

"They administered a CPR [sic] and used a defibrillator" Sounds like he died, most definitely "flu"

      patrick khorombi - 2011-05-26 10:32

      You seriously need Jesus

      OuWitBooi - 2011-05-26 10:35

We treat AIDS with beetroot and garlic, and we treat flu with a defibrillator? There's a mismatch somewhere... Perhaps somebody got a contract to install defibrillators in every office? Anyway, tomorrow they will deny that anything ever took place and Jimmy "there's an oversupply of coloureds" Manyi will claim that he was quoted out of context - and reject the spurious reports of the media with the contempt they deserve.

      jowza - 2011-05-26 10:39

OUWITBOOI.keep your imagination in outdoing yourself

      Barnz - 2011-05-26 10:51

  • jay rozz6 - 2011-05-26 09:14

how sarcastic, the man was in a critical condition and all you can do is make joke out of it, be sympathic, we love you minister, get well soon my champ

      Jannie - 2011-05-26 09:26

The remarks are not aimed at the minister specific, but at the ANC in general as we regard anyone representing the ANC as stupid, corrupt and supporting all the actions of Malema, Showerhead and the rest.

      Nunya - 2011-05-26 09:28

      Aag shame poor thing.....KFC champ!!

      Wizard101 - 2011-05-26 09:30

You must be joking,he is fat and the minister of sport. It is very confusing,do you need to be fat to be the minster or doesn't he need to set an example to others that you must be fit and healthy!!!????

      jowza - 2011-05-26 09:32

typical of these lot.thats all they do all day.hope it happens to them

Critical?????????? But back at work today. Hahahahahahahaaaaa.

      Michael - 2011-05-26 09:51

@jannie, according to the principle that you've established, is it correct to paint all whites as racists?

      Airborne68 - 2011-05-26 09:57

@GinSA1: Don't you know what critical means? Just ask Schabir. Back on the golf course.

      Jannie - 2011-05-26 11:14

Dear Micheal, did I in any way mention colour in my comment? You are reading your own thoughts as if it was stated by me. You are generalising "whites" against the ANC party. I condemned the ANC party and their corrupt ways in general, including the white members as they to are associating with the 'drek' running this country and collecting all the cash along the way they are running.

      Kenno - 2011-05-26 11:18

@ Jay rozz CRITICAL????? He had a cold and is back at work today!!! Get a life!!

  • Chabalax - 2011-05-26 09:33

the are so many reasons that a person can collapse from e.g diabetics,BP,broncho, low blood e.t.c we just need to educate ourselves ad stop making joke with things like that. get well soon Fikile(it doesnt matter if u r a minister,ZUMA or JUJU) we all get sick

      Old Man - 2011-05-26 09:53

Commencement of CPR and the use of a defibrillator indicate something far more serious than any of those causes you've mentioned. None of them will, by themselves, cause a person's heart to stop. Clearly the minister is quite ill, with something bad enough to kill him.

      GinSA1 - 2011-05-26 13:11

And I asked OldMan, and it's been removed - how quickly it can kill. Why removed Jannie Momberg?????????????

  • PMG - 2011-05-26 09:34

PMG CUM ON NW...Really, you mean your talking frm xprience. You need Jesus as well.

      GinSA1 - 2011-05-26 13:12

Your jesus is going to be very very very busy patrick. Can he be in so many places at one time? If so, lend him to the ANC please. They need jesus too.

You don't ease breathing with CPR or a defibrillator ... you restart somebody's heart with that!!!!!!!!!!

  • Viparo - 2011-05-26 09:41

So they administered "A" CPR, used a defibrillator to "ease his breathing"? It's a miracle the guy's still alive.

      Gorilla - 2011-05-26 09:46

Agreed Viparo. Defib is usually reserved for cardiac issues and not bouts of "flu like symptoms", certainly one does not collapse if one has the flu. Cloak and daggers methinks.

      jweer42 - 2011-05-26 10:15

Maybe he participated in SPORT rather than presiding over it and that's why he collapsed and was clinically dead for a few minutes.

  • kooster2 - 2011-05-28 09:41

Could someone please explain to me what "a CPR" is coz CPR is something you do and its not a object. And a defibrillator is something you use to jumpstart a heart. For passing out you use neither of those. You cannot get "sudden" flu like symptoms and for the minister of sport his ass is way to big like the rest of his cronies in parliament, maybe due to the food they stuff their faces with on my account at meetings. This must be the worst news report I've ever read and makes no sense at all.
