Mbeki congratulates new Indian PM

Johannesburg - Former president Thabo Mbeki has congratulated Indian Prime Minister-elect, Narendra Modi, for winning India's national elections, his office said on Monday.

"The former president expressed confidence that India would continue to strengthen her relations with the African continent and the rest of the developing world to realise shared development goals, the solidarity needed to achieve a better life for all and the creation of a fair and just world," his office said in a statement.

Mbeki also congratulated outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and described him as one of Africa's true friends.
