Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki listened to street children and school pupils talk about the problem of child abuse when he mingled with more than 1 000 youths at a children's day ceremony in Soweto on Saturday.
He replied to them that they should report people who committed child abuse.
"What is important is that we must educate all our parents and old people...to make sure there is no child abuse."
Mbeki further assured that the government was expanding the country's educational facilities and that it was important for schools to have computers and electricity.
About 1 100 people had gathered for the ceremony at the Morris Isaacson School in Soweto where 28 years ago the Soweto uprising of 1976 had started.
