Kampala - President Thabo Mbeki arrived in Uganda on Saturday for a one-day visit to attend the east African country's 42nd independence anniversary celebrations, an official Ugandan spokesperson said.
"He arrived at Entebbe airport this morning accompanied by his government officials and is scheduled to join national independence celebrations at Kololo before he holds talks with his host," President Yoweri Museveni's spokesperson Onapito Ekomoloit said by phone.
Mbeki is also scheduled to address a press conference after talks with Museveni before he ends his visit here.
Other foreign officials attending the anniversary include Nigerian Vice President Abubaker Atiku, who arrived in the country on Thursday.
Uganda became independent from Britain on October 9 1962, when now-exiled president Milton Obote, who heads the Uganda People's Congress Party, formed the first sovereign government. - AFP
