Johannesburg - Suspended police crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli's alleged threats to kill his love rival Oupa Ramogibe were called into question in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Ike Motloung, for Mdluli, was cross-examining Ntsekiseng Ramogibe-Mbuyisa in an inquest into the death of her brother 13 years ago.

Ramogibe-Mbuyisa told the court she made a statement primarily to ensure her brother's killers were caught and to highlight the threats made by Mdluli.

"I felt that I had evidence that after Mdluli came to my house with my mother he had threatened to kill him [Oupa]," she said.

"So, I have my suspicion that he wanted to kill my brother."

The State read into the record two statements made by Ramogibe-Mbuyisa - one in 1999 after the death of her brother and the other in December 2010.

Ramogibe-Mbuyisa claimed the threat to kill Oupa was made by Mdluli during a visit to her mother's house.

Aggressive

"I put it to you that your mother was very clear. The only time a threat was made, it was made at your house... None were made at her house," said Motloung.

Ramogibe-Mbuyisa responded: "I don't know where she came up with that."

"Let me put it this way. When my mother reported to me, she indicated that Mr Mdluli was aggressive. The fact that he uttered threats: that I got from Mr Mdluli."

Motloung asked Ramogibe-Mbuyisa why she had not mentioned the threats in her initial statement in 1999.

"I don't know why it is not in my statement, but I remember mentioning it. I don't know why it was not recorded," she said.

The inquest will determine if criminal charges against Mdluli, Samuel Dlomo, Colonel Nkosana Sebastian Ximba, and Lieutenant Colonel Mtunzi-Omhle Mthembeni Mtunzi, should be reinstated.

The charges were provisionally withdrawn in February, pending the outcome of the inquest.

The initial charges against them were intimidation, kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder.

The inquest continues.
