2012-03-20 09:05

Johannesburg - A man was killed and four others were injured in a five car pile-up in Pretoria on Tuesday, paramedics said.

Three vehicles collided with a broken down car on DF Malan Drive near the Van Der Hoff Road R514 junction, Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

Another car was parked in front of the broken down vehicle. A mechanic was working on the engine of the broken down car.

He was crushed between the two stationary vehicles by the force of the three-car collision.

"Despite paramedics' best efforts to stabilise him, he died at the scene."

Four other people were taken to nearby hospitals.

      Peter-Peter - 2012-03-20 10:16

      your logic is flawed

      Schmee - 2012-03-20 11:23

I'm surprised that the article doesn't mention that it was a taxi that was driving in the yellow lane because the rest of the traffic was going to slow.

Iudlowdj pls familiarize urself with Law, they cnt charge da drivers with murder...murder requires intention n clearly dis was an accident

      Karlheinz von Bentheim - 2012-03-20 09:43

Unless the driver was negligent in driving into the stationary vehicles. As u said know the law

      Deon - 2012-03-20 10:07

The taxi driver in Cape Town was given 20 years on 10 counts of murder. It does happen.

      Megan - 2012-03-20 10:49

Precedent has already been set in drivers being charged with murder instead of culpable homicide. It is absolutely possible, but would depend entirely on the situation leading up to the accident. I.e. If it is found that one of the drivers did something like move into oncoming traffic to overtake the other vehicles, knowing that it is dangerous and then actually causing the accident... murder charges may very well stand in court.

      Schmee - 2012-03-20 12:08

Right now there are three cases in courts around the country where drivers have been charged with murder and not culpable homicide. The precident was set with the Jacob Humphries case.

I know the road were it happend very well. THe problem is that in morning and afternoon traffic, people like to drive on the yellow line, taxi's being the main offenders. Every morning and afternoon we request from Metro police to put a officer in that area to na avail.

      Schmee - 2012-03-20 12:49

It's a pity the article isn't more clear but I also suspect that the accident happened in the emergency lane.

place the damn triangle a 100M or more away from the broken down vehicle.
