Johannesburg - Media24 journalist Mandy Rossouw has died at the age of 33, it was reported on Tuesday.

She died in her flat in Bryanston, Johannesburg, on Monday evening, Beeld reported.

According to the newspaper, Rossouw was admitted to hospital at the weekend with chest pains, but was discharged a few hours later.

A friend found her body in her flat when she failed to arrive for a dinner date. The cause of death was unknown.

Rossouw was the international correspondent for the Media24 group. She had also worked as a political journalist for Beeld.

Last year, she released the book Kings and Kingmakers before the ANC's national elective conference in Mangaung in the Free State.

"Her death is a huge loss for us," said Tim du Plessis, head of Afrikaans newspapers at Media24.

City Press editor Ferial Haffajee tweeted: “Our dear, spirited and beloved colleague Mandy Rossouw passed away last night. May she rest in peace.”

“We are deeply, deeply saddened by the death of Mandy Rossouw. Rest in peace dear Mandy,” tweeted Eyewitness News editor-in-chief Katy Katopodis.
