Kuruman - Two men appeared in Kuruman magistrate's court on Monday following a fight between blacks and whites outside a hotel at the town, which resulted in a riot on Saturday.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Rita Crafford said a black man was assaulted by three whites outside a hotel. Some people came to his assistance and threw objects at the attackers.
Crafford said Anton Oosthuizen was arrested on a charge of assault and had been released on R1 000 bail. The case was postponed to January 29 next year.
Goodman Bok, 18, was charged under the Explosives Act after he was found in possession of a petrol bomb. He is out on R200 bail and his case was postponed to January 12 next year.
Crafford said police found a group of people stoning shops, motorists and vehicles on Saturday night. The mob then also threw stones at police.
Oosthuizen and Bok were arrested at the scene.
Crafford said the situation was still tense.
