Johannesburg - Gauteng police were on Sunday searching for a man who allegedly raped a 47-year-old mentally-ill woman in Soweto, police said.

The man was with the woman's nephew at a shebeen on Saturday night, and left the shebeen while drunk, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The nephew, knowing his friend was going to his aunt's house in Zola, left the shebeen shortly afterwards.

"He found his friend on top of his aunt and had a fight with him."

The man ran away and police were notified.

A case of rape was opened. The woman was taken for medical attention.
