Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela received
messages of support from motorists passing his home in Houghton on Thursday.
"I'm happy Madiba is back at home. I wish him a
happy New Year and he must push for more years," said one man before he
pulled off.
A bus carrying German tourists also passed Mandela's
home.
"I wish him well. We are just passing to see his
place," said one passenger.
Mandela, 94, was discharged from hospital on Wednesday
after he had been flown to Pretoria from his Eastern Cape home on 8 December.
He was diagnosed with a lung infection and also underwent
gallstone surgery.
Mandela has a history of lung problems, having suffered
from tuberculosis towards his end of his 27-year stay in prison.
Journalists have converged near his home, with cameramen
setting up television cameras and photographers taking pictures of cars and
people passing Madiba's home.
A number of cars have lined up along the street leading
to his house.
