Cape Town - A fire at the Woodstock railway station in Cape
Town left thousands stranded and damaged a train, it was reported on Wednesday.
The Cape Times reported that firefighters battled for about
an hour to extinguish the fire which left four carriages gutted on Tuesday
afternoon.
Cape Town fire and rescue service spokesperson Theo Layne
said four commuters were treated for smoke inhalation and were taken to
hospital.
Metrorail regional manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said the fire
would cost the company millions of rand.
An investigation had been launched to establish its cause.
Swartz told Cape Talk on Wednesday morning that preliminary
investigations show that vandalism was the cause of the fire, but stressed that
this is only a preliminary finding.
