Midvaal official accused of racism

2012-06-20 22:54

Johannesburg - A senior Midvaal municipality official is facing a disciplinary hearing for allegedly calling protesters "kaffirs". It said this apparently happened during a strike last year.

A complaint was lodged against Hendrik Brits and he was immediately suspended pending a disciplinary hearing, Midvaal municipal manager Albert de Klerk said.

The disciplinary hearing would continue on Thursday.

De Klerk said any Midvaal municipal official found guilty of racism would immediately be fired.

The SA Municipal Workers' Union in Midvaal said it would protest outside the municipal offices in support of its members, who were testifying.

The union lodged a complaint with the municipality in August last year, when Brits allegedly used the offensive word.

the moment a white person insults a black person it gets publicity and court cases etc but wen a black man racially insults a white man nothing gets said, why because u white and i cn insult u if i want. talk about a non racial country...

      watsongeorgejan - 2012-06-21 00:45

Being a bit selective aren't we?. We ve seen songs banned, people instructed to apologise, to go for compulsory anger mng etc. S.A despite what other people think, is a constitutional democracy if you follow the correct channels.

      Andre - 2012-06-21 08:11

I've personally heard blacks calling other blacks the K word, but that seems to be in order. You just may not be a White to do the same, although they may refer to me as a "Boer". I must say I am proud to be a Boer. I wonder why they are so sensitive!

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-06-21 09:03

when im at the receiving end of racist comments i brush it off, i really dont care about it at all, im not an american, i wont go sue, or press charges, but if i do the same thing, all hell breaks loose, victiiiiiiiiim victiiiiiiim, why should i take offence at the ramblings of a racist, my best mates call me worse than k$%^r, come on, be more original, these okes are like grade 2 girls, miss miss johnny called me a girl, boo hoo hoo, grow up.step up, show this world what you got or fail and move over for everyone else, get over your blackness like another guy put it.

      msendi - 2012-06-21 09:12

In this case it is not only a white person, but a careless official who failed to control his anger and insulted a group of people. He was 100% wrong…

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-06-21 09:18

Msendi i agree 100%, in sa, we cannot affort to have racists in government, every political position must be neutral, for the people on the ground, time will sort things out, we cannot expect miracles from any race, time will sort it out, but sadly we have one or two, whether it be in the DA or ANC, that cannot grow the hell up. and they will suffer for it.

      logical007 - 2012-06-21 09:28

@ Msendi I disagree. Maybe white people are tired of the ongoing protests about service delivery, where everything that is burnable is burnt, anything that is standing is broken. Bins, light-poles traffic lights e.t.c. And who fits the bill to repair the damage, the municipality. Now that municipality allocates a certain amount for roads and lights e.t.c, and to have them constantly destroyed by ongoing protesters.... its enough. Especially when these same protesters won't help themselves and vote for a different party at election time.

      martin.britchford.5 - 2012-06-21 09:40

true that logical, i retract my previous statement

      msendi - 2012-06-21 10:21

@logical007– The complaint was lodged against Hendrik Brits who wasn't acting on behalf of white people or his political party. I don't understand you if you claim that maybe white people are tired because he is not white people, but a white person. If he is a DA member, his organization, currently is a best alternative to the ruling party. His actions is only strenghtening the ANC. Angry or not… white or green, he was wrong if he said those words…

      rlmbennett - 2012-06-27 16:53

@ Kyle - yeah I agree with you. Just show those who call you names that it is like water off a duck's back; shake it off, dust yourself off, be the best you can be in whatever you do and f... the rest. The name callers will soon realise that their name calling has little or no effect on the "victim". Stop being cry-babies and get on with it man! Stop making yourselves victims.

  • Frank - 2012-06-21 01:41

Wait a minute Midvaal that's where the DA have taken the municipality away from the ANC who have promised to take it back " by any means" could it be the the dirty tricks have started?

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 13:41

The DA is his employer, and they are instituting disciplinary proceedings against him. You mean they are involved in dirty tricks together with the ANC and against \r\nthe poor man, I meant thoughtless racist? Man we are doomed

  • Theo Ferreira - 2012-06-21 05:12

He was really silly to say that, absolutely take steps against him. But FIRE him? Wow. Imagine he chose to embezzle R2M instead and organise tenders for his brother' wife's company, then he could have been on full pay and administrative leave for 2 years. What was he thinking!?

  • jimi.harrison.7 - 2012-06-21 06:05

Why is it always racism against \them\ but never against us?????

      commentator.guy - 2012-06-21 07:45

Mondli you are not a very good troll I'm afraid. Keep trying though...

      msendi - 2012-06-21 09:17

Racism is racism. Against them or against you…

  • sizwe.bwana - 2012-06-21 06:49

They must have pissed him off big time. When will the word Boer attract the same attention?

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 08:23

The word has long attracted the same outrage garden boy. Juju had to apologise and the ANC was ordered by the Court to never sing the song that has the word in it, amongst others. Did your \baas\ ask you to post the nonsense you did?

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 08:55

\Ingadi\ White Troll, was I talking to you? Please shut up. You have nothing substantive to offer anyway. Go play with your friends at the nursery ... Lol

  • roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-06-21 06:55

Fire the man because it is people like this who stuff up the country. Mind you blacks are also just as guilty and should not cry foul because they usually instigate the problem so that they can cry "racism"

  • tshepo.mabaso - 2012-06-21 07:06

Having read these comments, 1 thing is apparent that we stil have a lot of work to do as a country regarding race.

      Rob - 2012-06-21 08:02

Well the minorities are not doing the killing, raping, etc, etc, so when the " crime " situation is under control, perhaps things will improve on the racial side.

  • braamc - 2012-06-21 07:09

  • Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-21 07:40

Funny how a suspension and possible firing follows the use of the "K" word but nothing is done when songs are sung of killing us.. Shows you that we are not scared to go the right thing by suspending him just for the use of that word, yet some people are SO corrupt, thieving etc, the get suspension with pay and eventually their jobs back.. Tsk tsk

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 08:25

Oh, and give the same advice to your friends whose brains are located in their backsides. All they can do is click \like\ instead of raise counter-arguements. Pathetic!

      roy.wadhams.1 - 2012-06-21 08:53

Well said.Must agree fully. If you are white and successful you will always be in the wrong no matter what. Shows you how this country, governed by a bunch of MORONS,can ruin everything.

      zweli.chopiso - 2012-06-21 08:57

The problem of you Emily is that the APARTHEiD SYNDROME is still flowing in your veins .It is crystal clear that u dont want to change, U should b ashamed of yourselves, we forgave u for oppressing us 3hundred yrs, instead of repent and reconciliaton u still fan the words of oppression, I wish oneday your car can stuck near the township and get helped so that your consciuosness can come back.plz go to the doctor for treatment of Hatred.....

      Ingadi - 2012-06-21 08:57

true true us blacks have the power now. we control. we dont care about minorities. red tape if constitution backfires. remember everybody I dont midn the k word, stick and stones, but use it and I use it against you cause i dont like you. give me land !!

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 08:58

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-21 09:11

It's true Themba. Where's fairness in that? I'm not racist but do believe in fairs fair.. Get off your high horse.

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-21 09:15

Zweli you don't know me. Don't form your own opinions - that's being judgmental. I have a lot of hard working black friends.y problem is with those who cry wolf, expect everything without working for it. I work damn hard and never get a hand out! I was not around in Apartheid era so it has nothing to do with me! I was not raised to be racist!

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 10:00

It's not true Emily. The ANC and Malema were ordered by the Court to never sing that sing against because it constitutes incitement of hatred. Helen Zille also won a case against Malema and Floyd last week. So where is the truth in what you are saying?

      nigel.burgess.52 - 2012-06-21 10:07

Emily is perfectly correct to bring this point up. It's factually correct. So instead of insults - debate the point. To insult someone because you don't agree (against all logic) is juvenile and immediately shows you have no argument.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 11:12

BigChimp, you and your GF Emily are probably the only people who do not know that the courts have ruled in favour of white complainants. Sit down and shush okay

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-21 17:05

I do believe it is NOT over yet Themba. The ANC is appealing it now so nothing is finalized.. Let's see where it goes..

  • nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-06-21 08:03

Its simple don't use the K word, no matter what, scrap if from your vocabulary...... wake up people!!!!!!!

  • vernon.samuel.7 - 2012-06-21 08:23

Hope that the DA fires the guy very quickly if found guilty. Not use the usual ANC tendancy of suspending him on full pay for years while court cases go on and on at taxpayers expense.

      zweli.chopiso - 2012-06-21 08:30

      mmnnxmm. trash

      Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-06-21 09:00

Maybe if he's lucky he'll get another position in another department, how it happens in ANC right? Only fair.. :-)

  • nigel.burgess.52 - 2012-06-21 08:51

As much as I despise the word, you cannot class a person as racist because in the heat of the moment he used a derogatory word. Sorry, but that is completely illogical. Racism is something that runs much deeper, and is basically a hate/intolerance towards another race. It's actually far more serious than using a derogatory word when upset or cross. No doubt they will find him 'guilty', but it would be wrong. He is out of order and the charge should be crimen unjuria. Not racism.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 09:35

Dude, in the heat of the moment the real you comes out, not the actor. That man is a racist, finish en klaar, and he's getting what he deserves because the he brought the DA's name (that employes) him into disrepute

      nigel.burgess.52 - 2012-06-21 09:59

@themba - I disagree. It is indeed in the heat of the moment, i.e. upset, cross, scared, etc etc, that we do not act rationally or as we normally would. He might still be a racist anyway, but you and I know that for a fact, so please don't pretend you know this to be the fact either. In my book, when people behave like cavemen then any word goes. It does not automatically mean the person is racist. That's the SA twisted logic approach.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 11:05

But when you lose your rationality in a situation where a person of the same colour as you are is involved, you will not lose sight of the fact that he is the same colour as you are and use a derogatory racist epithet or would you? I rest my case

  • eric.west.984 - 2012-06-21 08:51

Hats off to Hendrik Brits for calling a spade a you-know-what.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-06-21 09:30

Eric, if that soon to be unemployed douchebag is your role model, I suggest you also use the K word to your colleagues so that you too can join the unemployment queue. That'll give another South African a chance to earn a living.

  • Sibusiso - 2012-06-21 09:25

I used to live in KlipRivier, the DA has made impossible for me to live there, The manucipality one time repossesed my property because I owed them R1200.00, I had already spent R70,000.00 on building my house and it was bought back by Estate Agent who sold me the same Stand for R5000.00 and this was done without my knowledge. There is Attorney Firm next to Midvaal Manunicipality, which I think has encouraging this and until today no action has been taken against the Manicipality and Attorney firm involved, SO why Mr Brits has to be fired to use word K.. while I was ripped off by DA councillors because of my skin.Because this was done mostly on Africans that were living in Areas were prohibited by DA then.He must be descipline not fired from work, unless he continues say the K. word. And why it took protesters to get attention from Council

DA== Disguised Apartheid no matter what the madam say it's just a cover up. the true DA racist is the one you see in the mall. at work and every where you meet that white person that cannot stand the site of you. Whites hate blacks with passion and it's generic no matter what they do they just can't help but ask themselves why God created blacks. to top it all they expect no blacks in Africa how dumb can you be when you go to the where blacks are mostly concentrated and you hate them like hell.
