Johannesburg - Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has asked the Mpumalanga health department to explain why it gave a multi-million rand circumcision contract to Mkhago Health Care Services without putting it out to tender.

According to the Sunday Independent, civil society organisation Corruption Watch has been investigating the matter and why the contract was given to Mkhago owner, Dr Ebby Bongani Mkhabela, a doctor linked to an alleged botched circumcision of a 4-year-old boy five years ago. This incident is the subject of a R10m legal suit in the Pretoria High Court.

Motsoaledi said he was still awaiting an explanation from the Mpumalanga government and that should the matter require further investigation, the matter will be passed on to the relevant investigating agencies.
