Johannesburg - The current global economic instability will rise the vulnerability of poor people and women in particular, minister in the presidency Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said on Saturday.
Speaking at a meeting in Pretoria, Msimang said the consequences of the crisis would further "feminise poverty".
"A consequence for the targeted group is the deepening of poverty, food insecurity, inequality and the further feminisation of poverty," she said.
Msimang said government's war on poverty campaign would determine where poverty was affecting families and how it was impacting the families.
She said the fight against poverty involved families, communities and organisations.
The minister said government had made great strides in addressing poverty through social grants, disability grants and poverty alleviation programmes.
