Minors held for Soweto murder

2012-01-19 13:32
Johannesburg - Four minors have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man in a tavern in Jabulani last year, Soweto police said on Thursday.

"They were drinking and then an argument started and these four guys attacked this 26-year-old man.

They stabbed him in the stomach and used bricks to injure him on his head," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

He said police arrested them on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off about their whereabouts.

"They have been detained at a place of safety and will be appearing at Protea Magistrate's Court soon," said Makhubele.

In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man was arrested for stabbing his girlfriend, 26, multiple times at their home in Zondi on Wednesday morning.

He said the woman was taken to hospital and a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm had been opened.

The motive for the attack was not immediately known, but the charge could be changed to attempted murder, said Makhubele.

The man was also expected to appear soon in the Protea Magistrate's Court.
