Cape Town - A British food blogger who went missing during his holiday to the Mother City has been found at V&A
Waterfront.
Wilkes McDermid disappeared shortly before he was to fly
back to the UK and was missing for almost two weeks, reported the Cape Argus.
As McDermid had struggled with depression, friends in the UK
and SA were desperate to find him, and close friend Bernard Gutman never gave
up looking for him.
Appeals were sent out to Capetonians to keep a lookout for
McDermid, and he was spotted at bars and bakeries in the city.
On Monday night Gutman made contact with McDermid again and
told reporters that his friend had been trying to keep a low profile.
“Wilkes is safe,” Gutman said. “We found him at the
Waterfront and he’s now under medical care.”
McDermid told the newspaper he was grateful for all the
support he had received from friends in South Africa and the UK and said: “Cape
Town is a great city, an exceptionally great city,” he said.
"This is only the end of one part of the story, and
thankfully he is safe,” said Gutman. “Now the long journey to health begins.”
