Missing baby's mom arrested

2011-02-22 15:43

Cape Town - The mother of a missing baby has been arrested as a suspect in the case, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

Captain Anneke van der Vyver said the baby boy was reported missing in Macassar on February 16.

At the time, his mother said she left the baby and his 7-year-old sister sleeping in their home when she went to a nearby shop. The baby was missing when she returned.

The baby had not yet been found, said Van der Vyver.

How the hell can you leave your 7yr old and a baby alone at home while taking a walk to the shop???!!! What a chop!

Some mothers do it all the time -- but then again, those are the ones who should have their tubes tied and their children taken away from them forever.

The article would have been more interesting if you had said why/on which grounds she was arrested. Did she kill the baby or sell him or what?

Thats not a nice thought. The fact of the matter is that a woman who is supposed to be responsible for the well being of her children left them home alone (possibly in the evening) unattended. That in itself is punishable offence. (in my opinion)

@tracy - read the article....she was arrested as she LEFT HER CHILDREN ALONE to go to the shops. This is child neglect pure and simple. It was due to her incompetance that the child went missing - whether the child wandered off on its own or was taken, she provided the oppurtunity by leaving 2 children at home who could not defend themselves and would not know not to wander off.

      tracy - 2011-02-22 16:28

Right back at you ohwhatever, you should read it again because it does not SAY WHY SHE WAS ARRESTED..... it doesn't say that she was arrested because she left the kids alone. Please go and ask for a refund on your school fees.

UUUUhhhhh Both of you it reads... I quote "The mother of a missing baby has been arrested as a suspect in the case"... ummm in the very first sentence... shew... Higher grade... I would love to know why she is suspected??? But this could be another Maddie case, Mom kills baby and cry's abduction...

      ElgntlyWastd - 2011-02-22 16:33

@Tracy.....it doesnt matter what she did or who she killed. She left 2 children unattended. Whether she went to the shebeen, merchant, shop, whore house, it doesnt matter. She left them ALONE. Damn right she should be arrested!

      Utopia - 2011-02-23 13:48

The report says she was arrested as a suspect in the case i.e. the disappearance of the baby. It does not say she was arrested for child neglect. Tracy wanted to know why they suspected her in the case - simple as that, no smart-ass comments were necessary.

Actually ohwotever - the baby that disappeared was 7months old - don't think he wandered off anywhere.....

left the child to go to shabeen / merchant , children to these people is just a child grant for drug / drink money .

      chantal de pierres - 2011-02-22 16:34

Hope you never have to live in poverty.

      ji - 2011-02-22 16:45

@chantal de pierres , poverty has nothing to do with greed and having children for grants and taking drugs . I am not rich but I dont drink or take drugs and my children come first and I will give my life for them , I also teach them self respect . money cant buy class .

      charley - 2011-02-22 16:55

@Chantal, since when did being poor qualify you for being a disgusting parent. Nothing to do with being poor, rather a selfish mother with no thought to the consequence of her actions. It might well be that she did kill the baby, still nothing to do with poverty.
