Johannesburg - The body of 71-year-old Danish national Preben Povlsen was found in Gordon's Bay at the weekend, Western Cape police said on Monday.
Superintendent Andre Traut said Povlsen, who lived in Gordon's Bay, disappeared a week ago.
The discovery of his body on Sunday came after the arrest of three people on charges of abduction.
"Following the discovery and positive identification of the body, the charge of abduction has now been changed to one of murder" said Traut.
The Cape Argus reported on Monday that the three arrested were two sisters and their brother.
A 35-year-old man arrested on Saturday appeared in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
His arrest led to two women, aged 30 and 39, being taken into custody in the early hours of Sunday at their Gordon's Bay home, Traut said.
Povlsen's vehicle, which he was driving when last seen, a blue Mazda was found in Gugulethu near Cape Town.
The cause of death would only be established once a post-mortem had been conducted, police said.
