Nairobi - A British missionary was shot to death in northern Uganda by suspected rebels, the missionary news agency MISNA reported Monday from the Ugandan capital Kampala.
The incident occurred as the 57-year-old man was driving in a vehicle near the Sudanese border with his pregnant wife, who was uninjured.
The incident was at least the sixth in the past week in which aid workers have been attacked. A man working with Caritas was also killed.
The European Union, meanwhile, called on Uganda to employ greater efforts to end the civil war in the northern part of the country, saying the return of unrest in regions on the Sudanese border were "cause for concern".
The statement issued in Brussels by EU foreign ministers added that the European Union was ready to help Uganda with the return of refugees and national reconciliation.
The rebels calling themselves the Lord's Resistance Army have been battling the Ugandan government for nearly two decades with nearly 80% of the group's fighters composed of kidnapped children. An international arrest warrant has been issued for their leader, Joseph Kony. - Sapa-dpa
