Pretoria - A Pretoria woman has been given 30 days to move out of house that belonged to the man with whom she had had a 15 year extra-marital affair.

The family of Jan Rall, who passed away two years ago, turned to the courts to evict his mistress from the house that became his daughter’s property after his death, reported Beeld.

But the court took pity on Berdine Venter and gave her 30 days to find a new home.

Judge Tati Makgoka said he knew the family was eager to get Venter out of the house but that African culture had a saying that a person should never be thrown to the dogs.

“It is an embodiment of the honourable principle of ubuntu,” he said.

Rall’s relationship with Venter had continued to his death on 26 August 2010, after which she had stayed on at the house.

Rall specified in his will that Venter should have use of the house for life but the court ruled that the house belonged to a closed corporation and not to Rall.

Venter said she had been retrenched and had no income and wanted to stay on in the house for 6 months but this request was denied.
