Mob kills man over stolen livestock

2012-08-24 20:45

Johannesburg - A man has been beaten to death by residents of Mathanthanyaneng village who accused him of livestock theft, North West police said on Friday.

"A 13-year-old boy was doing his homework [on Thursday] when he heard noise outside the house of his grandfather and he informed him," said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

The 41-year-old man went to see what was going on and found four men stealing his sheep and goats. He alerted other residents, who chased the men.

Ngubane said that when residents later saw two vehicles carrying livestock in the area, they threw stones at them and beat one of the drivers to death. The other fled to the Taung police station.

Police found 12 sheep and six goats.

No arrests were made and investigations were continuing.
