Mob stones Zim man to death

2011-12-07 19:03

Polokwane - Four people have been arrested in connection with the stoning to death of a Zimbabwean man at Disteneng in Polokwane, police said on Wednesday.

Those arrested included members of the community policing forum and a resident who claimed the murdered man had robbed him of cash and cellphones, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The four allegedly led a mob that brutally attacked and killed the man after he was pointed out by a resident.

Ngoepe said the victim was taken to Seshego Hospital where he died shortly after admission.

"We are very disappointed that three of [the] four suspects are members of [the] policing forum who are supposed to ensure that there is effective policing in the community."

Ngoepe said the arrested complainant had not opened a robbery case against the man.

The four are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder.
