Mogale gets 16 life sentences

2011-03-18 14:43

Johannesburg - Convicted rapist and murderer Jack Mogale was on Friday sentenced to multiple life terms in the South Gauteng High Court, SABC radio news reported.

Judge Frans Kgomo sentenced Mogale, 42, to 16 life sentences which are to run concurrently. He will serve another 23 years thereafter, without the possibility of parole.

This was because Mogale was a danger to society, Kgomo said.

As Mogale left the court on Friday, he shouted in Sepedi at the families of his victims, saying "You are also coming, I pray. I will be out soon."

Evil

Kgomo said Mogale was evil and should be kept away from women and society.

Mogale was found guilty on Wednesday of nine kidnappings, 19 rapes, 16 murders, attempted murder, three robberies with aggravating circumstances, fraud or theft, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, sexual assault and escape from lawful custody.

Mogale pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. He continually testified that police, witnesses and his common-law wife Charlotte Manaka, were conspiring against him. Kgomo dismissed this claim as "far-fetched" and "fallacious".

The crimes were mainly committed at the West-End brick and clay factory near his home in Waterworks, Westonaria, and at various locations in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

He attacked and murdered 15 women and a child between March 2008 and March 2009. He was arrested when police were given his car registration number after a teenager went missing.

Don't sweat it Jack - you will be let out soon on good behaviour or when it's the president's birthday. This is ONE of the reasons why the death penalty should be reinstated - they cannot be let out then!

So - for the rest of his life, us the TAX PAYERS - will be paying for his upkeep. A bullet in the back of his head would have saved us all a lot of money.

  • Flee - 2011-03-18 15:11

Great... still think he should be shot.... Now lets just hope he doesnt have some or other terminal illness

  • William - 2011-03-18 15:17

He will never be out again. He is going to be someones wife now - Until death do us part. What i find disturbing, is that all of you so-called intellectual, making these comments, promote more RACISM then anything else. Drop the race issues, be people for change. We no Mogale ain't human, Lets not lower ourselves to his standards. Rather make constructive critism the order of the day

      JoJoJammin - 2011-03-19 08:01

William, I think you missed the point..

  • eugenebriel - 2011-03-18 15:26

And now we the Tax payers of South Africa have another one to support in prison. Rubbish like this should be given the "DEATH PENALTY".

  • Sanity_Check - 2011-03-18 15:28

15 life sentences...to infinity and beyond. Haha I thought 1 life sentence is good enough. Might keep him out of hell a bit longer..haha

      Jason - 2011-03-18 21:58

Yeah but they're going to be served concurrently, ie. its only really one life sentence ... with 23 years bonus time. Still I think he'll be dead by then, hopefully.

Gotta love it when justice is seen to be done!

      CheekySod - 2011-03-19 09:16

Kill a lot of people. In exchange get given a safe place with food and clothes with no responsibilities. Just your freedom is restricted. Sounds like a really good deal. The life outside prison seems harsh in comparison. And this is called JUSTICE!!!! You must be joking!!!!

  • wandile.casper - 2011-03-18 15:38

honestly this makes nosense, why keep a man whose being sentenced 16 lives? at a cost of tax payers expense. to rape more people in jail? WTF

  • Sphiwe - 2011-03-18 15:41

let god come nd take all evil ppl pls

  • G.du Plessis - 2011-03-18 15:52

He will be a victim in jail of the same sex crimes he committed.

  • DrGNL - 2011-03-19 05:54

Jack Mogale will never get out of prison, despite what the public thinks. Life sentences are just that, life sentences. You become ELIGIBLE for parole after 25 years, that does not mean you WILL get parole (and the remainder of the life sentence hangs over your head should you break parole conditions). In Jack's case there is no way a parole board will release him especially with the judge's comments and the fact that he is a serial murderer. Despite what people may think, being in prison is not a holiday, it is a living hell, which he will have to endure for the rest of his life. Lets focus on the positive, SAPS has a 100% conviction rate when it comes to serial murder trials. All of Jack's victims and their families had justice done. Col GĂ©rard Labuschagne- SAPS

I looked at a photograph of Mogale in the Mail&Guardian. If he was a sane person, he would certainly be the blackest sane person I have ever seen. I know there is no correlation between colour and sanity but it just struck me how dark his skin is. (Please, this is not a racist remark).

  • Phakzito - 2011-03-22 03:17

In all likelyhood, he is going serve his punishment in prison but, i have to agree with some of you. Prison is just too soft for a serial murder. Prison must be punishment in itself and not just some form of deprivation of freedom, prisoners must actually do some work for the benefits that they get while they are inside. They must be deprived of something more than just their freedom.
