Mohlala murder: Man released

2009-01-17 08:04
Johannesburg - A man taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of ANC councillor Jimmy Mohlala has been released, Mpumalanga police said on Friday.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said he was the third man taken in for questioning in connection with the shooting death of Mohlala at his house in Kanyamazane, in the Mbombela municipality near Nelspruit, on January 4.

Mohlala was shot dead outside his house as he tried to run from two assailants. His son was shot and wounded in the attack.

Police were continuing with investigations and called on anyone with information relevant to the case to contact them.

Mohlala was in the news about a year ago following reports that some African National Congress members wanted him sacked for blowing the whistle on a colleague, Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladla, for his alleged involvement in corruption.
