Cape Town - Ten-year-old McKayla Raynard is still missing but the little girl’s mother claims that she did not kidnap her from her school in Durban.
Calene Bianca Rutgers said in a Facebook post on Tuesday night: “How can a mother kidnap her own child?”
Police have now opened a missing person’s case for Raynard.
Rutgers has been accused of being a drug addict and a prostitute by Raynard’s grandmother who has looked after McKayla for the last three years and has temporary custody of the child.
Siobhon Raynard, McKayla’s aunt, told News24 that her family hadn’t heard from Rutgers for the last nine months but feared that she would show up to try and take her daughter back.
Their fears were heightened on Tuesday because it was McKayla’s birthday.
They are also looking after Rutgers 6-year-old son. She also has a 1-year-old child that is living in a children’s home in Durban.
McKayla is between 1.4-1.5m tall, has long black hair, dark brown eyes and is described as “a coloured girl who looks more Indian”.
She was last seen wearing a maroon T-shirt with her school logo on it and a pair of black shorts.
Rutgers is a coloured woman who is a size 30-32, has shoulder length black hair, a piercing in her chin and dark brown eyes. She is said to be between 1.5-1.7m tall. She was last seen wearing a red dress.
McKayla was snatched from her school, Seaview primary, in a silver Opel Corsa with a registration number NRB-62310. The plate is registered to a Toyota Hilux.
Both vehicles are said to belong to an “A Atuhaire” who has a property in Shrimptail Road in Richard’s Bay.
