Bloemfontein - A woman has been arrested for being in possession of about R10 000 in counterfeit bank notes in Qholaqhwe village in Qwa Qwa, Free State police said on Friday.

Her 15-year-old daughter was caught buying groceries with a counterfeit R100 note at a local shop on Thursday morning, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.

"After an interrogation, the teenager led the police to her home where more R100 notes were found hidden between the bed and mattress of her mother."

The 35-year-old woman was arrested. She was expected to face a fraud charge in the Makwane Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Now her kids are going to be motherless! Not cool......

She is a crook. She deserves jail. She should have thought about the consequences earlier.

True... but on the other hand you have to look at the alternative - kids being brought up in a criminal environment... and if you start at the age, what happens to the child later on in life, where it becomes aware that crime does pay? difficult situation... Have to admit though, that it is good to see active police & community work in the rural areas.

@Thulisa, is that the laws fault or the Mothers?

damn how do you give your child a conterfeit note, bad parenting!!

      MissGremlin - 2011-12-02 11:17

Yep, she just shipped her off to the shops, knowing full well that her daughter could be detained by security & police. Awful!

Well done to the shopkeeper. Sorry for the kids though. She should not have used her child in this way. Hope she goes to jail.

Qholaqhwe village in Qwa Qwa? I bet she is a poor woman who was forced into illegal diamond selling to feed her kids and got paid with fake notes. She probably had no idea they were fake - people from Qwa Qwa seldom see a R100 note.
