Port Elizabeth - A mother who was allegedly drunk when a family dog mauled her 3-month-old child has been charged with child neglect, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

The child is in a serious condition in hospital and police could not yet arrest the mother as she is minding the infant, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said.

It is believed that the mother and her two sisters were drunk when they left the boy on the floor on Sunday.

One of the four dogs in the house bit the child, severely damaging his testicles.

Community members alerted the police about the incident.

"We will arrest the mother as soon as the child recovers," Labans said.

It's surprising the media didn't label the dog as a PitBull. The most dangerous part of this breed to children are their tailes. I personally would like to see the media being sued if they wrongfully accuse the wrong breed for incidents like these.

Agreed, Spartan. Just 'a dog' will do, as in this article. But the ignorant press seem to think 'Pitbull' sells more papers.

i dont see in the artical. spartan needs to go and learn to read

No, I suggest *you* learn to read, naromi. Spartan is saying s/he's surprised the dog *wasn't* referred to as a Pitbull, as that seems to be the fashion of the Press.

Why on earth would the dog bite the child's testicles? what really happened. Sounds fishy? a dog wont bite unprovoked and the child is only 3 months old, can't even sit up on his own yet? Something doesnt add up.

I agree completely! Pit Bulls are so misunderstood! People don't realise that bad owners are the cause of dog attacks. Ban the deed, not the breed!! Pit Bulls can be just as loyal and loving as a Labrador, for example. But the media has labelled these dogs as monsters. And so have the people who train them to be fighters or neglect their needs. Many other dog breeds also attack humans, but again, bad ownership is almost always the cause. Join my Facebook group, I'm trying to raise awareness about the misconception surrounding Pit Bulls -

Let the dog bite the mother's numfi..! and see how that feels

If a dog attacks another living thing it always goes for the throat or head to kill it, this baby must have been in a poor state of hygiene and neglect as this is uncommon for an animal to attack this part of the anatomy or am I just ignorant to dogs going round biting people in the nuts????
