Mom charged after dog mauls baby

2011-01-05 17:49
Port Elizabeth - A mother who was allegedly drunk when a family dog mauled her 3-month-old child has been charged with child neglect, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

The child is in a serious condition in hospital and police could not yet arrest the mother as she is minding the infant, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans said.

It is believed that the mother and her two sisters were drunk when they left the boy on the floor on Sunday.

One of the four dogs in the house bit the child, severely damaging his testicles.

Community members alerted the police about the incident.

"We will arrest the mother as soon as the child recovers," Labans said.
