Mom, dad, face rape charges

Cape Town - A Parow couple, charged with raping and indecently assaulting their own daughter over a period of 10 years, appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Suspects in sexual offence cases may not be named until their cases actually start, and they plead to the charges.
However, in order to protect the identity of the daughter, it is likely that the court will prohibit the publication of their name altogether, even when their case does commence.
The purpose of Thursday's proceedings was for the father to secure legal representation, and privately funded attorney William van der Schyff came on record for him.
The mother is represented by legal aid attorney, Darrin Jones.
At the hearing in August, prosecutor Herculine Swart told the court the couple were arrested at their Parow home in Cape Town's northern suburbs, after the girl, now 17, had recently confided to her teacher about her problems.
The couple appeared on Thursday before magistrate Theo Marx, who remanded them to October 3.
Van der Schyff and Jones told the court they needed to consult further with their clients, and it was possible they would launch a combined bail application on October 15.
