Polokwane - A Limpopo mother and her 18-year-old daughter were burnt beyond recognition when her estranged husband set theier house on fire and stood outside with a gun to stop them escaping.
He then shot dead two cattle and fled.
The 40-year-old woman and her daughter were asleep in a village in Apel near Lebowakgomo when her husband arrived about 23:00 on Tuesday night, said Captain Mohale Ramatseba of Capricorn area police.
"It seems they were still asleep when he set the house alight," said Ramatseba on Wednesday.
The man apparently stood outside and fired at them when they tried to escape through a window.
Ramatseba said the 56-year-old man had recently separated from his wife.
The suspect is still at large.
