Mom hacked to death with spade - son jailed
Johannesburg - A man was jailed for 23 years by the Northern Cape High Court on Tuesday for killing his mother and violating her corpse, the regional national prosecuting authority said.
Daniel Litsili, 37, of Galeshewe in Kimberley, was arrested in October, spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said.
"He hacked his 61-year-old mother Caroline Litsili with a spade at their home in July last year until she died," he said.
Daniel stole his mother's cellphone and R150 before fleeing to Randburg, north of Johannesburg, Shuping said.
The motive for the crime was not known.
Daniel had numerous previous convictions. He was also serving an 18-month jail term for contravening his parole conditions at the time of sentencing.
