Johannesburg - Two boys have been arrested in Swaneville, Kagiso, west of Johannesburg, after the mother of one of them reported the pair for allegedly possessing stolen property, Gauteng police said on Monday.

"The police received a complaint of stolen property and proceeded to the scene where, upon arrival, they found the complainant who is the mother of one suspects," said spokesperson Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

"She immediately told the police that her 14-year-old son was in possession of expensive goods that he could not account for."

The goods included an iPad, a pair of takkies and a mountain bicycle.

The boy allegedly told his mother and police the goods belonged to his friend.

Police, accompanied by the boy and his mother, then went to the friend's home where they found another mountain bicycle.

"The suspect’s friend could also not account for the bike. Both minor suspects were arrested and taken to Bosasa Youth Rehabilitation Centre," Sibiya said.

The boys were arrested on Saturday around 22:00.
