Louisville - The wife of Mpumalanga traditional leader Tikhontele Dlamini was shot dead in front of her eight-year-old daughter at their home on Saturday evening.
Sibongile Promise Magongo, 38, who lives near the KaloMshiyo traditional authority offices in Louisville near Kaapmuiden was killed in her yard at about 20:15, said Lows Creek police station commissioner Captain Lucky Sithole on Monday.
Magongo, who was a nurse at the Barberton hospital, had just arrived home from a youth meeting at Matsulu C with her two daughters, aged 17 and eight, said Sithole.
While the teenager went to open the house, a man approached Magongo and her youngest daughter at the car and opened fire on them.
"The first bullet missed the little girl and the second one hit her mother in the head and she died instantly," said Sithole.
When the teenager rushed back to the car, she saw a man climb into the same white car that had followed them and drive off.
"When we arrived at the scene the youngest girl was crying next to her mother's body," said Sithole. "I think she is brave because other relatives who arrived at the house went indoors, while she stayed with her mother's body," he said.
He said the girls would be sent for counselling.
Police have opened a murder docket and have no suspects yet. Police also haven't determined a motive for the murder.
Anyone with the information about the murder is asked to call Lows Creek police on (013) 710 0111 or 082 448 9919.
