Mom sues after newborn falls on floor

2012-06-18 11:33

Bloemfontein - A Free State mother has sued the provincial MEC for health after she gave birth to her baby in a hospital corridor and the baby fell on the floor after labour.

Mapitso Mokhuane was also badly injured during labour, sustaining serious tearing that had to be repaired with three operations in the Thusanong hospital in Odendaalsrus, Volksblad reported.

The operations were apparently not successful and additional surgeries were necessary.

A court found that the woman was entitled to some damages but requested more information before awarding an amount.

Mokhuane claimed R610 000 from the MEC and an additional R850 000 from the Congolese doctor who performed three unsuccessful operations on her after the delivery.

Mokhuane told the court that hospital staff had let her wait for a long time before attending to her. She also had to give birth without any medical staff helping her and the baby fell on the floor after delivery, during which the baby was hurt.

The hospital denied being negligent in any way.

I would've beaten the people responsible to a pulp. The ANC has done exactly the same thing to SA and its people.

Can someone explain negligent to the hospital perhaps then they will understand where they went wrong and what they are employed to do! Poor woman and child! Too shocking for words!!

What the hell makes them think NHI is going to work?? Everyone will contribute, and like the other taxes, will end up in someone's pocket and this dire situation will NOT change. Makes me want to vomit!

But of course they will deny all of this. My aunt was at Helen Jospeph were she passed out in the passage and the nurses just walked over her leaving her on the floor. Government Hospitals should all be renamed The Government Institute for Awaiting Death.

Welcome to African nationalization. The service is out of Africa. I do not expect anything more or less from government owned institutions. I'm sorry that this poor women went through the trauma with a new born but this is the future.

The government is happy to see our wonderful doctors emigrate due to crime, corruption and and all the other rubbish. So now the rest of the continent are immigrating to the promised land. Doctors from where???? The Congo! Are you sure this doctor is not a vet and should be taken to the SPCA. Oh my! But then our poor animals won't survive. Another winner for the ANC.
