Monkeys steal food from Durban hospital

2012-05-24 11:42

Johannesburg - Monkeys have been stealing food and medicine destined for patients at Durban's Wentworth hospital, the Daily Sun reported on Thursday.

"We have tried to get people to help us but so far nobody has come forward. We simply don't know how to deal with them," chief operating officer Dr Suriya Kader said.

A nurse described the monkeys as a hairy smash-and-grab gang, with the animals snatching and drinking from the medicine bottles.

A patient said the monkeys knew the times food was served in the hospital, and timed their attacks accordingly, the newspaper reported.

"They even grab our medication, thinking it is sweets," the patient said.

Worked there years back.. This is not a new problem. For it to escalate this far means management hasn't looked into it properlly.. I mean pest control is avenue to look into.
