3 more arrested in Montecasino murder

2013-11-06 15:00

Three more people have been arrested and could be linked to the murder of Dustan Blom, the Randburg Magistrate's Court in Johannesburg has heard.WATCH

Johannesburg - The officer investigating in the murder of a man found dead in his car at Montecasino was attacked by armed men looking for a docket, the Randburg Magistrate's Court heard on Thursday.

"On Friday, the investigating officer had two armed visitors who were seeking his docket," prosecutor Yusuf Baba told the court.

"They took his identification card."

Three men were appearing in court in connection with defrauding Dustan Blom, whose decomposing body was found in the boot of his car at Montecasino in September.

Four people were arrested in connection with the case, but on Thursday only three appeared as the other had to attend another case. Brothers Louis and Heinrich Coetzee, and Ian Manyika and Alex de Kooker each face two counts of fraud.

They are accused of taking over R100 000 from Blom's bank account.

Jean-Pierre Malan and his girlfriend Maruschka Robinson, a former stripper, are charged with killing Blom.

‘A very complex murder’

They appeared in a separate courtroom, where their case was postponed to 26 March to allow for further investigations and a bail application.

Baba told the court the State had no problem with the two accused applying for bail.

He told the court that the case could not be speedily resolved.

"This is a very complex murder. It's not a straightforward murder case. It can never be completed in a short period of time," said Baba.

Robinson was arrested on 24 September, and Malan on 26 September.

Baba said he was not sure whether the attack on the investigating officer was related to the murder or the fraud case, as they were running parallel to one other.

"We can't say at this stage it is this accused, because there is another case running parallel to this."

The fraud case was also postponed to 26 March for further investigation and for the docket to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
