More abuse claims against karate coach

2011-11-15 14:21

Johannesburg - More claims are expected to be made against a karate coach accused of molesting students at a dojo in Douglasdale, Johannesburg, the Randburg Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.

This was according to testimony in a bail application by the coach, who may not be named until he has pleaded.

Warrant Officer Joel Ngobeni told the court three more students had claimed that the instructor molested them.

Ngobeni said the three approached him on Monday. He would take their statements on Tuesday night.

The 68-year-old instructor is accused of sexually assaulting nine of his students, aged between 8 and 34.

They claim the coach fondled their breasts and placed his hands on their private parts.

Ngobeni could not confirm whether the karate coach had been convicted of other crimes.

If this is the same chap who was arrested in 2005 in Stilbaai, on allegations of possessing explicit child pornography and have close links to a rape/molestation cases, then the police might have to answer as to why he was allowed to do it again. Like I said before though. We will wait for the facts before judging, but it doesn't look good now. That's 11 students claiming molestation.

I worked with a woman whose kid was doing karate in the north somewhere and the oke was molesting her. To my knowledge the mother just removed the child. It is probably the same guy and if it is she was negligent in not reporting him at that time.

How do you sexually assault someone? Is it a type of kata?

      Moi - 2011-11-15 15:16

This really isn't a topic with any place for humour

      JohnnyBGood - 2011-11-15 16:05

Maybe I should sexually assault you with a jack-hammer. Although, it will take a week before the smile is gone from your face!

      Levett - 2011-11-15 16:53

Karate IS a joke. Rather do a real martial art like Muay Thai or Taekwondo where you actually learn to fight. Hope this Ninja gets touched a lot where he's going.

OK Mr Johnny whatever you say LOL

Wheres the parents? Dont they watch their 8 year olds train. We all do at our dojo!

      JohnnyBGood - 2011-11-15 16:07

@Janice, that is one of the biggest issues with society nowadays: People are not interested in the kids and their where-abouts. Drop them off and pickup later.

Does the word "molest" apply for a 34-year old woman? Why not just call it sexual assault?

      Yar - 2011-11-15 15:51

      It applies

  • Ari - 2011-11-15 15:47

    Anybody know the "sensei's" name?

      SToast - 2011-11-15 15:58

If you Google the related cases, and if as I suspect this is related to the Stilbaai cases, then one name appears again and again. Although he wasn't named in the other cases either, you can search for related farm names and karate studios. How many 68 year old karate senseis can there be in SA.

Hi Marazor. Just wondering how many rapes and cases of molestation take place per 100.000 individuals in the different ethnic groups in this country? I know you probably can't count to more tan three but I think you'd owe us all an apology
